New York: The Association of Indians in America (AIA – New York chapter)  is ready to welcome tens  of thousands people to their 32nd Deepavali festival on October 6 at South Street Seaport in Manhattan.

As for the special attractions this year, the fireworks are an integral part of this annual flagship event of AIA. And as in the last few years,  Naach Inferno intercollegiate dance competition featuring 8 groups will be a big draw for the youths.

Speaking to The South Asian Times, AIA-NY President Harish Thakkar  said that the biggest dhoom will be created this time by Amar Sandhu, ‘America’s very own Urban Desi Star with Global Hits’. And Sandhu is one of the gigs in the rich entertainment package with items such as Yoga Band for the mega show, which may also feature Bollywood celebs and Bollywood style dance performances.

A new feature this time is the Vegan Expo in association with World Vegan Vision -- which will comprise Vegan food tasting and cooking demos.

Visitors are also expected to make a beeline for the Health kiosk, Children’s Fair, Corporate Fair, Shopping Bonanza, Delicious Food stalls, and Raffle prizes including 3 iPads and 2 free air tickets to India.

The best thing about this Diwali fair is that admission is free.

The main sponsors of AIA Diwali mela include Cheapoair, Qatar Airways, McDonald’s, New York Life, Navika and HAB Bank.

With its pioneering efforts, AIA has brought Indian culture, food and dance to the general public in the tristate area. AIA’s Deepavali festival attracts not  only the Indian American community but also Americans, Chinese and Hispanic.
