Ekal holds fundraiser in Long Island

East Meadow, NY: Following a successful gala at the Cipriani in Manhattan last November, the Long Island chapter of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA held its annual fund raiser at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park here on March 31.

Ekal is the largest village development movement with a tangible presence in over 67,000 remote rural villages across India and Nepal. Through its single teacher schools that run on a dollar a day, Ekal has provided education to more than 12 million young minds, and is proud to say, the number is growing.

Its Long Island chapter has been active since 2004. Its current president,  Mohan Wanchoo, is ably supported by a strong and committed team, including Dr. Vijaypal Arya, Dr. Yashpal Arya, Dr. Harish Patel, Dr. Pradeep Bansal, Himanshu Patel,  Veer Mukhi, Nilima Madaan, Anu Gulati and Anu Jain.

This year's event raised funds for supporting 300+ schools.

Consul General Sandeep Chakraborty in his keynote address thanked all present for their support towards the socio-economic development of India.

Mohan Wanchoo gave a presentation highlighting Ekal's work and impact in both adult and child education, health, and economic development through the Digital India initiative.

Kaushik Deshpande and group presented a medley of songs revering the precious bond between mother and child, followed by popular current and older numbers that had everyone tapping their feet and clapping in unison! A fun time was had by all, while contributing to the worthy cause of building India one village at a time!
