IAAC inducts Dr Mattoo as Chairman

New York: Dr. Nirmal Mattoo has been appointed by the Board of IAAC (Indo American Arts Council) as its new Chairman effective July 1, 2018.  Dr. Mattoo’s background as a philanthropist supporter of the arts and artists, educator, humanitarian doctor and successful businessman with a strong track record of building non-profit centers of excellence made him uniquely qualified to head and lead the institution.

The announcement was made at a gala gathering at the Indian Consulate in New York on July 30 attended by over 160 people from the arts, media and community. Consul General Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty welcomed the IAAC members in his opening remarks.

The IAAC Board thanked Aroon Shivdasani, the retiring Executive and Artistic Director, for her services in building IAAC into a premiere art and cultural organization of the Indian American community.

Dr. Mattoo called Aroon a trailblazer in fostering the arts and the artist community as well as a film festival,  book festival, dance, music and art festivals.

Aroon Shivdasani said Dr Mattoo has the fiduciary spirit to take the IAAC mission to the next level. She thanked her key team members Aseem Chhabra, Ramneek Kang, Nili Lakhani, Rohan Gupta, Monty Kataria, Abhi Chintakunta and Suman Gollamudi as well as many volunteers.

Plaques were presented to Aroon by Ambassador Chakravorty and the IAAC.

Dr. Mattoo announced the appointments of Sunil Hali as new Executive Director, Rakesh Kaul as Vice Chairman and Anil Bansal, Anurag Harshand sas board members.

Dr. Mattoo called Sunil Hali a leader in South Asian media, art and entertainment field and marketing.

Sunil Hali announced a literary event with author Ramchandra Guha on October 2nd followed by music with  Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali at the Carnegie Hall the same month. The New York Indian Film Festival will run May 7-12, 2019.
