IALI donates $15,000 to interfaith nutrition network

Hempstead, NY: The India Association of Long Island (IALI) held its annual "Diwali Food Drive" at Mary Brennan  INN, here on November 10. This project, "Feeding The Needy", started during the term of President Dr. Sunil Mehra in 1994. This year $15000 was donated to  the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) which feeds homeless and needy in Nassau County.

The President Lalit Aery along with major donor Peter Bheddah presented the check to Jean Kelly in presence of many guests.  Bheddah, founder of the IALI Diwali Food Drive, spoke how important is this charity work for him and how it touched his heart. He thanked Suda Sharma for taking the lead as Food Drive Chair for the first 10 years.

Lalit Aery thanked everyone present there and all the donors for making this charity work possible year after year.

NYS Senator Kevin Thomas graced the event and applauded IALI for doing a wonderful job.

Past President Bina Sabapathy emceed the event. Event Chair Jyoti Gupta sang both Indian and American National anthems.

Jean Kelly, Director of the INN, thanked President Lalit Aery and all the donors for their generous gesture. In her emotional speech she mentioned the importance of giving back to the community and cited the example of how individuals can change the lives of others and requested everyone to enlighten their heart with Diwali light.
