LI's India Day Parade set for Aug 6 afternoon in Hicksville

Hicksville, NY: The 5th India Day Parade 2016 (IDP USA) will take place in Hicksville, the heart of Long Island, on August 6 (Saturday), it was announced at a well-attended curtain-raiser here on Tuesday. Celebrating India’s 70th Independence Day, the parade this time will be held from 3 PM onwards along South Broadway, followed by cultural entertainment, booths and more. It is expected to attract 10,000 people and will also be live webcast around the world.  

The parade was initiated five years ago by some leading members of the community who are currently on the Advisory Board, including - Bobby K. Kalotee, Indu Jaiswal, Kamlesh Mehta, Jagdish Sewhani, Dr. Raj Bhayani, Peter Bheddah, Dr. Bhavani Srinivasan and Dev Ratnam.

The kickoff event was hosted by Bobby K. Kalotee and Jagdish Sewhani and was attended by several community leaders in the presence of IDP President Beena Kothari and her team, who all appealed for community support for a bigger and better parade this year. There will be 40 marching groups, besides floats and a car caravan.   

Invited guest Dr. Udit Raj, Indian MP from Delhi, in his speech, gave an update on the progress of many developmental programs initiated in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and exhorted NRIs to play their part in developing their motherland.
