’83’ premieres in Mumbai with star cast and 1983 World Cup squad

Ahead of the release of Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘83’, the film had its grand premiere in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The film, directed by Kabir Khan, chronicles India’s win under Kapil Dev’s captainship when the team defeated West Indies in the final to clinch their first-ever World Cup trophy in 1983.

Ranveer Singh made a stylish entry at the premiere in an all-white ensemble. Ranveer greeted paparazzi with folded hands and posed with his director Kabir Khan, who looked in great spirits. Ranveer, who plays former Indian captain Kapil Dev in 83, also got a tight hug from the man himself. Kapil Dev was all smiles as he struck some happy poses with Ranveer. But it was Deepika Padukone who stole the show in a stunning strapless gown with a diamond neckpiece. Ranveer and Deepika also shared some mushy moments on the red carpet as they posed together for the paparazzi. Ranveer Singh’s ‘Gully Boy’ co-star Alia Bhatt also attended the screening of 83.

As the sports drama is all set to release on the big screen before Christmas, former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev recalled the feeling of lifting the World Cup in 1983, in a video shared by the makers. Kapil Dev is heard saying in Hindi: “India ke liye khelna ek sapna tha and a bigger dream was to become the Captain of the National team. And I had never imagined lifting the World Cup on the balcony of Lord’s!”

‘83’ also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R. Badree and Pankaj Tripathi.

Deepika Padukone will be seen in a cameo avatar playing Romi, Kapil Dev’s wife.

Earlier, the film received a standing ovation at its world premiere in Jeddah and also saw its trailer being projected onto the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai with Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath in attendance.

’83’ has been declared tax-free in the national capital.
