Jeddah: Indian community organizations in Jeddah came together to host a farewell reception for outgoing Indian Consul General Mohammed Shahid Alam here. According to the Siasat Daily news outlet, Alam was hailed for his pivotal role in cementing the cordial ties between the Indian mission and the community. Prominent NRIs acknowledged his endeavor to address the grievances of workers.
Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Shahid Alam said that the NRI community is an important pillar in public diplomacy and NRIs in the Jeddah region are pragmatic and supportive. He added that it was effective support of the Diaspora that the Indian Consulate successfully conducted Operation Kaveri, an evacuation operation of Indian nationals from war-torn Sudan. He also highlighted the services of Indian Community volunteers during Hajj.
Earlier, Alam also met the Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ branch in Makkah, Mazin Hammad Al-Himali, and conveyed his sincere appreciation and gratitude for all support during his tenure in extending welfare services to Indians and in advancing bilateral relationships.
Alam, who took over as India’s Consul General in Jeddah in February 2021, has now been posted to the Indian High Commission in London. He previously served in Jeddah as the Hajj Consul from 2015 to 2018.
