New Delhi: An Indian-origin doctor shared a disturbing experience of racial discrimination she faced while attending a music festival in Albania in southeastern Europe. In a video, which went viral, Pranoti Kshirsagar described how a group of girls targeted her with offensive remarks, telling her to "go back to (her) country" during a concert by American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo in the capital Tirana.
The 37-second clip shows a visibly upset Kshirsagar recounting the incident. She explained that while she was patiently waiting in line, a group of four girls cut ahead of her. When she pointed out their behavior, they aggressively responded by telling her to "go back to (her) country".
"I was waiting in line, and a group of four girls just came up, cut the line, and when I pointed it out, they repeatedly told me to go back to my country... And they laughed about it, called me their mother, and all of that jazz, and so yeah, I feel very welcome in Albania," Kshirsagar said.
The video, originally posted on TikTok under the account @dr_pranoti, quickly gained traction across various social media platforms, including X. As of now, ot has amassed over 4.4 million views and more than two thousand comments after being shared by an X user.
The video received a mix of reactions online. While some X users supported Kshirsagar, others posted negative comments, suggesting Albania is not a place for tourism. "Just ignore the mean girls and have fun," one user said. Another user praised her for handling the situation with grace. "She confronted this very politely."
X user DonGeronimo wrote: "The group was right. Albania is for Albanians. India is for Indians, Germany is for Germans, etc". Another said: "Go back please! Help out your communities... rather than coming and destroying ours!"
