Dubai: A 72-year-old Indian woman, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, has become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the UAE’s visa amnesty. Eada Ratna Kumari, who worked as a housemaid, flew home after 22 years with authorities waiving more than Dh730,000 in residency fines.
According to a Gulf News report, Kumari was among the last batch of amnesty seekers to fly home before the two-month grace period for the UAE residency law violators to exit the country or legalize their status to continue living in the Gulf without fines.
She had first landed in the UAE with an Abu Dhabi visa in 1996 but became an illegal resident after she left her employers, whom she claimed mistreated her. Her visa expired in 2002.
Kumari thanked UAE authorities for waiving the enormous fines and allowing her to exit the country without any legal punishment. She also expressed gratitude to the community volunteers and the Indian Consulate in Dubai who helped her with the amnesty procedures.
