New Delhi: The government has convened an all-party meeting on July 21 ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament which is scheduled to begin on July 22 and will conclude on August 12, the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry said.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) said no representatives from the party will attend the meeting as July 21 is observed by the party as Martyrs' Day. "For 30 years now, 21st July has been observed as 'Martyrs' Day' in Bengal in honor of our 13 colleagues who were unlawfully killed in a police firing on the day in 1993," Derek O'Brien, the party's parliamentary party leader in Rajya Sabha, wrote to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Ahead of the session, the Rajya Sabha secretariat has reminded lawmakers about a number of customs and conventions, pointing out that “reference to officers of either House in debates is improper” and that “rulings given by the Chair should not be criticised directly or indirectly inside or outside the House”.
