Lucknow: At least four people were killed and around 25 sustained injuries after several bogies of the Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda on July 18. The train was coming from Chandigarh. The accident took place between UP's Jhilahi railway station and Gosai Dihwa.
Police said some coaches of the passenger train headed to Dibrugarh derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations. Senior railway and local administration officials are at the spot to oversee rescue operations. Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar said a 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances are at the spot and more medical teams and ambulances are being rushed.
After the derailment, at least 13 trains have been diverted and two cancelled. According to reports, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the train accident in the Gonda district and has directed the officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief work. He has given instructions for proper treatment of the injured, the CM's office said.
The accident comes just a month after Kanchanjunga Express, en route to the Sealdah station in Kolkata from Tripura's Agartala, derailed last month after being hit by a goods train in Bengal's Siliguri. The mishap left 10 people dead and over 30 others injured.
