Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged the Centre to declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster and enhance the compensation for the affected people in the Kerala district. The Congress leader added that more than 200 people have been killed and a vast number are missing but the eventual casualty was going to be over 400.
After visiting the disaster-affected areas on August 1, Gandhi vowed that the Congress party would build more than 100 houses for the survivors of the landslides in Wayanad.
