New York: Srisharan Shankaranarayanan, a 7th-grade student of Indian-American origin from South Setauket, New York, has been selected to attend the prestigious summer program at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). He is currently a student at Robert Cushman Murphy Junior High School (Three Village Central School District) and will be entering 8th grade this September. Srisharan took the Johns Hopkins Talent search test in Spring 2025. His performance in the verbal and quantitative sections placed him in the 94th percentile among students at least two grade levels above his own.
Recognized by Johns Hopkins University as one of the world's brightest students globally, Srisharan qualified by taking above grade level tests. CTY is globally renowned for identifying academically gifted students and providing them access to college-level courses designed to challenge and inspire. Srisharan earned admission to the program through outstanding performance on the School and College Ability Test (SCAT), placing him among the top tier of young scholars worldwide. This summer, Srisharan is participating in the Advanced CTY Electrical Engineering course, where he is engaging with high-level concepts typically taught at the college level. Each year according to Johns Hopkins University, about 16,000 students from nearly 90 different countries around the world join CTY. On average, less than 30 percent qualify for either High Honors or Grand Honors/SET based on their test scores.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Srisharan proudly embraces his Tamil roots. He can speak, write and read three languages including French. Srisharan is also a member of his school's Science Olympiad team and is also an Orchestra member at Long Island Youth Orchestra. Srisharan for his exceptional music ability was awarded 2nd prize by CBS Star Lydian Nadhaswaram at FeTNA Convention in 2022.
Srisharan also participates in French World Language Competitions. In the 2025, American Association Teachers of French Contest, he was awarded the Silver Medal and was placed 4th in National Rank at his level. He also got his Diploma in French (DELF) at the A1 Level and currently has written his A2 in French.
Srisharan also loves volunteering at his local Emma S Clark Library. This year he was awarded the Gold Medal for Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his community service at his school.
In recognition of Srisharan’s remarkable achievement for participating in “a prestigious summer program held at Johns Hopkins University in pursuit of advanced studies in Electrical Engineering”, the Three Village School's Board of Education acknowledged him in their Board meeting on July 1, 2025.
