New York: Renowned physician Dr Hari Krishna Shukla was conferred ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by former President Joe Biden for his incredible contribution to the field of medicine.
Dr Shukla says, “I am deeply grateful for this incredible honor. Thank you to Hon. President Biden for recognizing my work in medicine and for the community. This one award is equivalent to all awards I received so far. I received a certificate and a pin for Lifetime achievement for medical work on the 40th anniversary of my practice and a Medal for volunteer community work.”

Dr. Shukla is a triple board certified (American Board of Pediatrics, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine & Forensic Medicine) physician. He is an Assoc. Professor at New York University, School of Medicine and has forty years of experience in training physicians and provides state of the art care for preterm infants in the USA. He came to the United States in 1980 as Rotary Scholar and had Doctorate degree in Pediatrics from India.
Dr Shukla is a highly decorated physician with multiple awards from the Mayor of New York City, the Governors of New York and New Jersey, United States Congress and the Senate for his work in Medicine and Community. Recently he has received the highest NY state award “Liberty award” and became the first Asian to receive this award.
Dr Shukla does community work via two Not for Profit organizations.
Dr Shukla has done some fundamental research in Pediatrics. Some of his work is accepted worldwide.
Dr Shukla has created a mathematical equation for insertional length of Umbilical Arterial and Venous Catheters (lifeline catheters) for sick infants in 1986. This formula of Dr Shukla is used in majority of the Hospitals and Universities in all the continents including North America. This formula is quoted in several textbooks and manuals. It is estimated that over four hundred million babies received catheterizations worldwide using his formula. This formula is quoted in several textbooks and manuals.
Dr.Shukla is pioneer in use of surfactant in preterm babies in the United States. He used “Survanta “ surfactant in 1986 under IND (Investigational New Drug) protocol of United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1986. Survanta was approved to use by FDA in 1990 in United states for use in preterm infants.
Dr.Shukla has developed a formula for rapid estimation of insertional length of Endo-tracheal tubes in infants. This formula is used in all hospitals in United States.
Dr.Shukla is a recipient of ‘Pasteur, Merieu and Connought’ (The makers of Polio Vaccine) award for his work in USA and India toward Polio education and eradication.
He is married to Kirti Shukla. They have Two sons. Both sons are doctors and practicing in New York. They have six grandchildren.
