Queens, NY: Triveni Times, the leading Nepali community media outlet, proudly celebrated the 115th International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, at the Queens Library in Corona. The event was an inspiring tribute to the remarkable women making a difference in their communities and beyond, recognizing their impact in empowering the future of women everywhere.
The celebration featured a special awards ceremony, honoring 10 exceptional women for their outstanding achievements. The honorees included Dr. Judith Naraine, Dr. Mariam Singh, Dr. Helen Arteaga, Shreeya Giri, Machchhe Devi Gurung, Cherry Ann Chishti, Sookranie Dhanpat, Gladys Ramirez and Taiba Ahmad.
Each of these distinguished women was recognized for their transformative work in their respective fields, and for their commitment to shaping a better future for women across the globe.
The cultural program at the event included a Nepali cultural performance by Basanti Rai and Mahadev Tripathi, along with beautiful performances by Bangladeshi and Filipino artists, showcasing the multicultural richness of the community.
Assembly Member Jennifer Rajkumar also participated in the event, presenting proclamations to each of the honorees including Elizabeth Dhakal in recognition of their invaluable contributions.
In addition to honoring the women, Triveni Times and its dedicated volunteers received significant recognition. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer personally acknowledged Triveni Times for its contributions to the community, presenting Nabaraj KC and the team with proclamations and appreciation certificates.
Additionally, the New York State Senator recognized the outstanding contributions of Triveni Times with a proclamation, further highlighting the importance of its work within the community.
Triveni Times’s reporters, Begam Pandit, Dr Shankar Bisunke, and Lakesh Shrestha, received special recognition from the Queens Borough President’s office for their dedication and journalistic contributions to the community.
Manoj Basnet, General Manager of Annapurna Media Network was recognized by Assembly Member David Weprin.
