Washington, DC: A group of Indian-Americans has launched a website DesiPresident.com celebrating Kamala Harris's candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. The website, "Kamala Ke Saath", pushes for community engagement and support for Harris, whose mother immigrated from Chennai and father from Jamaica.
"The coming months are filled with excitement and promise as we rally together to make history. Your participation and enthusiasm are key to our success, and we can't wait to embark on this journey with you," the website said.
The initiative, a project of the Indian American Impact Fund, includes a T-shirt campaign with the slogan "Kamala Ke Saath: Vote Kamala," which has gained popularity on social media. The group also hosts a weekly virtual phone bank called "Kamala Ke Saath" to canvass voters and supporters.
During an event this week, the Indian American Impact Fund presented a T-shirt to Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.
This is not the first instance of a presidential campaign using a Hindi slogan. In the 2016 elections, the Trump campaign employed the slogan "Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkaar."
"The Indian American Impact Fund supports Kamala Devi Harris for President. We're mobilizing South Asian voters to help elect the first Indian-American president. Kamala Harris stands for our values and communities," said the organization, quoted by news agency PTI.
The fund aims to mobilize South Asian voters to support Harris, who they believe represents their values and communities. The group's activities are designed to increase voter engagement and promote Harris's historic candidacy.
