Houston, TX: Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston (EGMH) announced continued support from Houston Endowment, a private, nonpartisan foundation dedicated to serving the Greater Houston community. Houston Endowment has awarded EGMH $65,000 per year in general support for 2025 and 2026. This generous commitment was recently confirmed by Bao-Long Chu, Program Director – Arts and Parks at Houston Endowment.
Houston Endowment has been a steadfast supporter of EGMH since its inception. In 2021, EGMH was awarded an initial capital grant of $500,000, followed by an additional $250,000 grant in 2022. This crucial early funding served as a catalyst for EGMH’s fundraising efforts, helping to raise a total of $11 million for the creation of the museum. As the only institution in the Americas dedicated to preserving and promoting Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy of nonviolent conflict resolution, EGMH stands as a world-class, state-of-the-art cultural and educational landmark.
The significance of Houston Endowment’s support was further underscored during the grand opening of EGMH on October 2, 2023. Ann B. Stern, President and CEO of Houston Endowment, and Bao-Long Chu attended the momentous occasion alongside distinguished guests, including Dr. Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and Isaac Newton Farris, nephew of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Their presence highlighted the museum’s vital role in Houston’s cultural landscape.
