CHICAGO, IL - Hours before Vice President Kamala Harris became the first Indian American to receive the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) spoke on the main stage at the Democratic National Convention.
In his remarks, Congressman Raja, the first South Asian to ever lead a Congressional Committee as Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), addressed how Kamala Harris is best positioned to unite our country to outcompete China and other foreign adversaries.

Aside from Kamala Harris, Congressman Raja was the only individual of South Asian descent to speak on nomination night. His parents, who hail from Tamil Nadu, the same state in India where Vice President Harris’s family originates from, proudly attended the historic address as members of the audience.
