Tehran: Iran has vehemently rejected accusations of any involvement in alleged plots to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, even as it pledged to pursue legal action over the 2020 killing of a revered Iranian general by a US drone strike.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said this week that Iran "strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran's intention for such an action," state-run IRNA news agency reported. Kanaani added that Iran is determined to "pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the crime of assassinating General Qassem Soleimani", the commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, who was killed in an American drone attack in Baghdad in January 2020.

The CNN reported on July 16 that the US received intelligence from a human source in recent weeks about an Iranian plot to try to assassinate Trump. The news outlet further reported that there was no indication that the 20-year-old who tried to assassinate Trump last week was connected to the plot.
