- More than 60 Palestinians in southern and central Gaza were killed overnight and into Tuesday (July 16) in airstrikes that came as Israel and Hamas renewed their push for a ceasefire to end the Gaza war.
- Israeli security forces confirmed they killed Rafa'a Salameh, the commander of Hamas's Khan Younis Brigade, in airstrikes in the Gaza Strip late last week. However, the fate of the group's top military commander, Muhammad Deif, remains uncertain.
- Israel bombed the sixth UN-run school in Gaza in 10 days, killing 25 people and injuring several others. The al-Razi school in Gaza Strip had given shelter to thousands of displaced Palestinians.
- Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to step up pressure on Hamas in war-torn Gaza after the United States criticized the high civilian death count in recent attacks.
- A member of the political office of Hamas said the group has not withdrawn from ceasefire talks after last weekend's deadly Israeli attacks in Gaza.
