A ‘Salute to Veterans and Heroes’ program was organized on November 10, 2020 at Town of Oyster Bay Town Hall, by AIA (Association of Indians in America) with IAF (Indian American Forum). The two organizations distributed 450 new winter jackets and 240 packages of caps, socks and gloves to the veterans and homeless people in shelters.
The IAF Veterans Day Program was hosted by Dr Urmilesh Arya and Dr Indu Jaiswal and team at Town of Oyster Bay town Hall with Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Town Board councilwoman Vicki Walsh,
Town Clerk Richard La Marca.
The event was graced by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Chairman of Human Commissions Rights, Nassau County Dr. Bobby Kalotee, Farrah Mozawalla, Director of Office of Asian Affairs Nassau County, Town of Oyster Bay Clerk Richard LaMarca and Councilwoman Vicki Walsh.
Strict COVID 19 restrictions were implemented and limited number of guests attended from Indian American Community, Sunil Hali promoter and publisher, Radio Zindagi network, The Indian EYE newsweekly and Divya Bhaskar North American edition; Shashi Malik, president IALI; Mukesh Modi President IDP USA; Jasbir (Jay) Singh, vice president IALI; Nilima Madan, president Rotary Hicksville South; Jyoti Gupta president LILC; Animesh Goenka, trustee IAF; Sandy Bhatia from Flushing Bank, Hicksville; Dr. Raj Modi and Dr. Jay Sarkar among others.
Program started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mukesh Modi. Indu Jaiswal welcomed everyone.
Honoree Dr Kamal Singh Kalsi, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army Reserves was recognized for his unrelenting and dedicated services in the US Army.
Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor was introduced by Dr. Bobby K. Kalotee.
Saladino recognized the community leaders and appreciated the efforts and services of Indian American community in providing support to veterans and their families. He paid tribute to the veterans by saluting them.
Winter Jackets were given for distribution to Paul Vista – Nassau County Veterans Agency, Tina Sferrazza – Beacon House for Veterans Long Island, Lorrain Washburn –Commissioner Nassau County Housing for Homeless.
