Six community leaders honored for their outstanding contributions
New York: Association of Indians in America, New York Chapter hosted the 35th Deepavali festival annual benefit fundraising gala and fashion show on September 18 at Muttontown Golf Club.
President Harish Thakkar addressed the guests highlighting AIA activities. “NY chapter organizes annual Deepavali festival attracting a huge crowd including Indian Americans, Chinese and Hispanic population in Manhattan. With AIA’s pioneering efforts over the past three decades, we have brought Indian culture, food, and dances to the wider population,” he said.
Prem Bhandari – Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA) President and Chairman of Jaipur Foot, USA, interventional cardiologist Dr. Prakash Krishnan, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Dr. Pratichi K Goenka, Cardiologist Dr. Bhuddhadev Manvar, Oncologist Dr. Jatin Shah, and Captain Zoya Agarwal were honored at the event for their outstanding contributions to the society at large. Captain Zoya Agarwal became the youngest woman commander to fly the Boeing 777 in 2013.
For the first time, a Khadi and Saree fashion show on the theme of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘Indian Culture’ was organized at the event. AIA’s 35th Deepavali Festival will be organized on October 2 at Southstreet Seaport, NY.
