New York: The Association of Indians in America (AIA)-NY chapter held its 33rd Diwali Diya lighting ceremony on a luxury boat on Hudson River in front of South Street Seaport in Manhattan on October 4. This welcomed the upcoming festive season in New York: Navratri and Dussehra are later this month, to be followed by the festival of lights on November 14.
Led by AIA-NY President, Harish Thakkar, the limited number of guests at the Diya lighting ceremony included AIA executive members, sponsors and media partners. Deepavali festival is AIA-NY’s annual flagship event, which could not be held this year because of the pandemic restrictions.
CheapOair, Qatar Airlines, New York Life Insurance and McDonald’s are a few of the major sponsors for AIA‑NYʼs annual Deepavali festival at South Street Seaport.
