Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan’ crosses Rs 200 crore mark globally

Even as Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ is all set to hit the big screens this Eid, his last release ‘Shaitaan’ is running successfully in cinemas. The film will soon complete a month in theatres, after debuting on March 8. The supernatural thriller film, also starring R Madhavan and Jyothika, has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark globally.

Helmed by Vikas Bahl, the film opened to mixed reviews by film critics and raked in Rs 14.75 crore on its opening day. It earned Rs 60 lakh on day 25 (April 1), and stayed afloat even after facing competition from Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon’s ‘Crew’, and the Hollywood hit film ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to X to share an overview of the film’s business in India. He wrote, “#Shaitaan inches closer to ₹ 150 cr mark… Has yet another eventful weekend, despite #Crew and #GodzillaXKong invading the marketplace,” and shared the film’s week-wise nett business.

Shaitaan also achieved a parallel feat at the worldwide box office. Madhavan took to his X handle on April 1 and announced that the film has also crossed ₹200 crore at the global box office. To be precise, it’s made ₹201.73 crore worldwide so far.

Presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films and Panorama Studios, ‘Shaitaan’ is produced by Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. It is the Hindi remake of the 2023 Gujarati horror film ‘Vash’, written and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik.

Ajay will next be seen in the sports drama film ‘Maidaan’, based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, under whose leadership the Indian football team won the Asian games in 1951 and 1962. The film is scheduled to release on Eid (April 10) and will clash with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F.
