Albany Town Council opens with Hindu mantras

Albany, Louisiana: Hindu prayer started the day of Albany Town Council in Louisiana on November 14. Verses from Rig Veda, Upanishads, and Bhagavad Gita were chanted during the invocation.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who is the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, delivered the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures remotely before Albany Town Council. After the Sanskrit delivery, he then read the English interpretation of the prayers.

He started and ended the prayer with “Om”, the mystical syllable containing the universe, which in Hinduism is used to introduce and conclude religious work. Reciting from Brahadaranyakopanishad, Rajan Zed said “Asato ma sad gamaya, Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya, Mrtyor mamrtam gamaya,” meaning “Lead us from the unreal to the real, Lead us from darkness to light, and Lead us from death to immortality.”
