Ameesha Patel says she missed chances to work with Bhansali, Yash Raj

Following a five-year break from the industry, Ameesha Patel recently made a triumphant return with her role in Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar 2’. Remarkably, the film’s strong box office performance shows no signs of slowing down, even as it approaches its one-month mark in theatres.

Despite her joy over the film’s success, Ameesha Patel recently opened up about one of her most significant career regrets. The actor shared how she missed the opportunity to collaborate with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali due to her then manager.

During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Ameesha revealed, “There were talks for a very good project. But I don’t want to mention its name, because the film has already been made. Unfortunately, my manager at that time and Mr Bhansali were not getting along.”

Indicating her lack of awareness about the situation, the actor added, “Once I parted ways amicably with that manager, Bhansali told me that there were moments when we were supposed to work together. But, he said, he did not want to deal with my manager. Even Yash Raj Films, Sajid Nadiadwala, and others told me later that they were too scared to approach me because of the person managing my work. So, I missed out on numerous promising projects, directors, and producers due to mismanagement rather than proper management. But that’s destiny.”

Previously, during a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha had opened up about a letter she received from Bhansali complimenting her work. “After watching Gadar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wrote a really beautiful letter, a complimentary letter to me, and when I had a meeting with him, he said, ‘Ameesha, you should retire now.’ I was like ‘why?’ I didn’t understand,” she told Bollywood Hungama.

She then recalled what Bhansali told her at the time, “He said, ‘Because you have already achieved in two films which most people don’t achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime (films like) ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Mother India’, ‘Pakeezah’, ‘Sholay’ get made, you had it in your second film, so what next?’”
