Anupam Kher takes audience on an engaging journey into his life

New York: Anupam Kher’s one-man theatre performance Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai has been performed many times all over the world stage. But his outstanding performance at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in New York City to an intimate audience and crème de la crème invitees set yet another bar entirely. Setting the tone of the evening, Anupam Kher forayed into the theatre with the customary ease of a consummate performer and mingled with the audience, cracked jokes, giving casual shout outs, just shaking hands, engaging them even before the performance had begun and a few minutes later stepped onto the stage and the unforgettable evening began.

Enacting his life story of failures and success with the passion, power and energy kept the audiences engaged and gave them an intimate glimpse into the making of Anupam Kher the star, the person, the performer. They laughed with him, empathized with every failure and gloried in his victories. The story of his birth, his family life growing up in Shimla, his yearning to be someone different to make a mark outside his limited world – made for a mesmerizing tale of how everyone can dare to dream and should. Weaving the antics of school days with his first disastrous forays into acting, while sharing with the audience the nuances of his first kiss, his first crush were mesmerizing as they were relatable. Anupam emoted effortlessly of his personal journey, his struggles as an actor and how his theatre mentors gave life lessons that have stayed with him to this day. Throughout the performance, the sharing of the journey as well as the audience reaction it was clear that everyone was emotionally invested in every moment big and small, the highs and the lows – every twist and turn of the deeply personal tale.

Speaking after the stupendous standing ovation Anupam Kher outlined his unique vision to use the venue at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, NYC as the epicenter of a cultural hub. The evening certainly felt like a precursor – a special black tie theatre dinner experience where Anupam in his signature style mingled with audiences both before and after the play. Setting a tone for the evening was live music at the dinner event after the play, tastefully catered Indian dinner and an opportunity to get face time with the performer himself. It was both intimate and elegant in setting and scale and marking an opportunity to recast the message of cultural epicenter that Anupam Kher is committed to. His vision to make the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan the most happening cultural center in NYC ties in seamlessly to his personal iconic message of Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai that can cascade beyond the stage, the performance and embrace one and all.
