Ayurveda Academic Chair at Western Sydney University from next year

New Delhi: Union Ministry of Ayush has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Western Sydney University’s NICM Health Research Institute to establish an Academic Chair in Ayurveda. The new Academic Chair at Western Sydney University will undertake academic and collaborative research activities in Ayurveda including promotion of herbal medicine and yoga. It will also design academic standards and short-term and medium-term courses and educational guidelines on Ayurveda in Australia.

The Ayurveda Academic Chair will be based at Western Sydney University’s NICM Health Research Institute located on the West mead campus with tenure of three years. The appointment of the chair is jointly funded by the Ministry of Ayush and Western Sydney University and anticipated to commence early in 2022.

The Ayurveda Chair at Western Sydney University will conduct workshops, seminars, conferences on Ayurveda to advocate the safe and effective use of Ayurveda Systems in Australia.

The MoU in this regard was signed on September 7 between Professor Tanuja Nesari, Director of All India Institute of Ayurveda, Ministry of Ayush and Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University of Australia in presence of Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary Ayush and Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment and Foreign Affairs of Australia.
