Congressman Zeldin Calls on Hochul to Veto Pro-criminal Clean Slate Act

New York: On Saturday, June 10, 2023, former four-term US Congressman, 2022 New York Gubernatorial candidate, and Chairman of the Leadership America Needs PAC, Lee Zeldin, called on Governor Kathy Hochul to veto the pro-criminal Clean Slate Act (S211, A1029). This bill, which was jammed through the legislature on the final day of session, seals records for crimes, including homicide, armed robbery, drug trafficking, violent assault, robbery, larceny, manslaughter, burglary, and much more. The act will effectively disallow employers from vetting candidates based on past convictions. Congressman Zeldin issued the following statement:

“Albany Democrats are under the dangerously wrong assumption that passing more pro-criminal laws will magically make New York safer. These politicians are failing in their duty to protect New Yorkers. Kathy Hochul must veto the Clean Slate Act.”

During his 2022 Campaign for Governor, Congressman Zeldin was an outspoken critic of the Clean Slate Act. Congressman Zeldin also pledged that on Day One as Governor, he would declare a state of emergency on crime in New York to suspend cashless bail, Less is More, Raise the Age, the HALT Act, and Discovery Law Changes.
