Nassau County, NY: Diving into the holiday weekend, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran officially opened County pool facilities for the season and announced a new food program, launched at six County parks including Wantagh Park, North Woodmere Park, Cantiague Park in Hicksville, Nickerson Beach, Cow Meadow Park in Freeport and Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn.
The County engaged a brand-new local food vendor, MME Inc. Hospitality Group who will be operating food trucks at each of these parks, serving a variety of summertime favorites from seafood, to tacos, to burgers, every day from 11:30am to 5:00pm. A handful of tables and chairs will be placed socially distant around the trucks which will be parked outside of the pool facilities or other main attractions in the park. MME Inc. will also be operating several old-fashioned food carts that will be circling each park selling pre-packaged foods, snacks and sweets, in addition to operating the brick and mortar food concession stands located at each park.
“With the popularity of our first-ever food truck program introduced at Eisenhower Park, I am thrilled to multiply the options for foodies, families and all residents, expanding the myriad amenities and activities available in our parks,” said County Executive Laura Curran. “Our food services have been designed with safety top of mind. Pool patrons and park goers will be able to order and coordinate delivery directly from their smart phone – not only for convenience but to reduce potential, lines, crowds and interactions.”

As the County’s outdoor pools and splash parks officially opened, the County Executive outlined some of the new protocols being implemented to continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19, some of which include: Reducing capacity at pool facilities and allowing access to residents only; All staff will be temperature checked at the start of their shift; To help with future contact tracing efforts if needed, pool patrons will sign-in at each facility; Lounge chairs and other pool furniture will be spaced apart in small groups and sanitized every day; Pool patrons will need to wear masks while walking around the facility but not while they’re lounging or swimming.
Pools that opened are located in Cantiague Park, North Woodmere Park, Wantagh Park, Christopher Morley Park and Nickerson Beach. The County Executive also announced that mini golf opened in Wantagh Park, Cantiague Park and Eisenhower Park.
“With travel restrictions and the recent rise in coronavirus cases seen in 40 states around the nation, I want to encourage residents to enjoy a staycation right here in Nassau County,” said Curran. “Take advantage of the many safe outdoor activities available throughout the County’s 70 parks and preserves. These havens for open space and recreation are very important to our physical and mental health during this stressful time.”
