Diaspora gears up for India Day extravaganza across United States

New York: India is all set to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Independence this August 15, and so are the Indians in America. Fun, frolic and a spirit of unity bind all those who participate in India Day events all across the US.

The way Indians in the USA celebrate Indian Independence Day is no different from the celebration at home. A lot of evidence about their being Indian to the core can be witnessed during Indian Independence Day events in the USA.

Though the events had been subdued in the last two years due to the pandemic and Indian diaspora is making a point this year to celebrate India Day with renewed zeal in all major cities, more so as it marks the 75th anniversary of her independence.

The New York Indian Day Parade is special among all the India I-Day events. Organized by the Federation of India Association (FIA) since 1981, the India Day Parade NY was previously attended by some of India’s greatest legends from different walks of life, such as Raj Kapoor, A R Rahman, Anna Hazare, Ramdev Baba, and Virendra Sehwag.

In Georgia, the Atlanta Festival of India is one of the biggest Indian Independence day events that offers music, shopping, feasting, cultural performance, yoga, seminars, and kids’ activities. Boston India Day Festival organized by the Indian Association of Greater Boston is one of the major Indian events in New England.

In Illinois, Chicago India Day Parade and Celebration includes the most spectacular India Day Parade. The parade with decorated floats, traditional Indian food, classical dance performance, modern music bands, and fireworks attracts Indians in and around Chicago.

To enjoy a movie screening, storytelling contest, dance competition, and a spectacular procession of colorful floats or an open-top car ride, the Fremont India Day Parade in California is a place to be. Indian celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Mallika Sherawat, Randeep Honda, and Sonu Sood graced the celebration in the past.

Indians in and around Los Angeles celebrate the Independence Day of India with equal enthusiasm. Popularly known as the Indian Independence Day Heritage Celebration, the event in Los Angeles features a great selection of entertainment programs. Since 1999, Los Angeles’ India Independence Day celebration has been winning desi hearts.

The Austin Parade of India in Texas is considered a kaleidoscopic celebration of India’s cultural diversity represented by the Austin Indian community. The event features a schedule full of cultural performances, national anthem recitals, culinary contests, motivational speeches, etc.

Other notable India day celebration includes Portland India Festival, Oregon, and India Day event at Novi Michigan, Florida.
