New Delhi: With terror attacks rising in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on July 18.
Attended by Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the meeting came hours after two soldiers were injured in a gunfight between terrorists and security forces in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir where Army men are engaged in an encounter to neutralise some militants linked to the killing of four personnel, including a Major.

Last month, PM Modi was given an overview of the security-related situation, including armed forces' counter-terrorism operations in the region, following which he directed full deployment of armed forces' counter-terror capabilities.
The J&K Police have launched a major operation against increased terror activity in the region, which has seen 48 Army personnel, including officers, killed in action over the past 32 months. According to an NDTV report, several individuals, suspected of aiding terrorists, have been arrested, and large numbers of paramilitary and army troops were conducting search operations based on intel reports.
Four Army personnel, including an officer, were killed in action in Doda this week, days after five soldiers were killed in Kathua in a coordinated terror strike, which included use of armour-piercing bullets, on military transport trucks. Last month six soldiers were injured and nine civilians killed. The latter died after terrorists attacked a bus full of pilgrims in Reasi. The bus fell into a gorge and 33 people were also hurt. In May an Air Force personnel was killed after vehicles were attacked in Poonch district.
Who are Kashmir Tigers? The Kashmir Tigers terror group took responsibility for the killing of three jawans and a captain during a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The existence of this group first came to be known in January 2021 after the abrogation of Article 370 when they claimed responsibility for attacking a police bus in Srinagar, killing three soldiers and injuring several others. According to police, Kashmir Tigers is a shadow group of the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The JeM has carried out several terrorist attacks since its formation in 2001 and it has created several small terror groups to carry out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. |
