New Delhi: The Lok Sabha proceedings were marred by repeated chaos and disruption as the Opposition members resorted to slogan-shouting as they were miffed with BJP MP Anurag Thakur's remarks on the caste census. While addressing the Lok Sabha on July 30, the former union minister attacked the Opposition saying that people whose caste is unknown were talking about the caste census.

Thakur had responded after Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, promised a caste census if the INDIA bloc came to power. Rahul Gandhi accused Thakur of insulting and abusing him but asserted that he would not seek any apology from him. "You can insult me as much as you want, but you should not forget that we will get the caste census bill passed in Parliament," Gandhi said, interrupting Thakur's speech.

Criticizing the Opposition for creating a ruckus and disrupting the House proceedings by raising slogans, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, "This is not the right way. A person from your faction is raising a question, and you are not letting them speak?"

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also slammed the Opposition's actions, specifically targeting the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. He stated, "The Congress party always talks about caste all the time, but not about how they have weakened this country by raising questions on our Indian Army, demotivating them and working just to weaken the nation."

Meanwhile, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi moved a Privilege Motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tweeting the expunged portions of Thakur's caste remarks against Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. PM Modi then posted the entire speech on X, and said it was a "must hear" and a "perfect mix of facts and humor, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI Alliance".
