New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kerala's Wayanad district on August 10 in the wake of the tragic landslide disaster that has claimed the lives of more than 400 people so far, India Today reported. He is scheduled to arrive at Kannur Airport in the morning from where he will travel to Meppadi by helicopter.

The PM will take stock of the situation in the landslide-hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai villages in the district and is also expected to visit a relief camp, where more than 10,000 people are currently lodged. The visit comes at a time when several Members of Parliament from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra as well have asked the Union government to declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster.

With authorities currently working to find accommodations for 1,968 people who are sheltering in 16 camps, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the state will ensure the people affected by the landslides will be provided with world-class rehabilitation facilities. "We will ensure world-class rehabilitation. Our goal is to implement a resettlement model that can serve as an example for the nation and the world," the Chief Minister stated.
