Kabul: As many as 281 members of the security forces in Afghanistan were dismissed by the Taliban's Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and Propagation of Virtue after they failed to grow a beard. These security force members were identified for not having a beard and were later dismissed, said Mohibullah Mokhlis, Director of Planning and Legislation at the ministry.

The Taliban Morality Ministry noted that around half of those detained were let go after 24 hours. However, it did not provide details regarding the gender of the detainees and their alleged offenses. The officials in the country have destroyed as many as 21,328 musical instruments in the past year and have prevented thousands of computer operators from selling ‘immoral and unethical’ films in local markets, Mokhlis said.
