London: In response to the recent rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata, a UK-based group of Indian students organized protests in Londin and Scotland, submitting a memorandum to the Indian mission in Edinburgh.
The protest, led by the Students' Federation of India-United Kingdom (SFI-UK), sought urgent steps to combat gender-based violence.
A delegation from the group presented their demands to the Acting Consul General of India in Edinburgh, condemning the state's failure to provide a safe workspace for women. Protests will continue, including a planned gathering in Liverpool, to press for justice and highlight rising violence against women.
In their memo, SFI-UK accused the West Bengal state government of severe negligence and demanded a thorough judicial inquiry and improved workplace security for women. The group's actions follow widespread outrage and a doctors' agitation in India, along with ongoing CBI investigations into the tragic incident.
