Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has started preparations to host the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) on a grand scale from January 8-10. The flagship annual event that celebrates the contribution of the Indian diaspora across the world in the development of the country will be held at Janata Maidan here and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The theme of the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention is “Diaspora’s contribution to a Viksit Bharat”. A youth edition of the convention will be held in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the valedictory session, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The Odisha Government has decided to hold three flagship events —the Rajarani Music Festival, Mukteswar Dance Festival and International Odissi Festival — simultaneously with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.

The website for the upcoming convention was jointly launched this week by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who said the government accords the highest priority to the well-being of the Indian diaspora of more than 35 million.

While launching the website (pbdindia.gov.in), Jaishankar said PM Modi’s regular interactions with the diaspora during official visits abroad and their unwavering support of India’s growth are testimony to the strong bonds between India and its global community.

He expressed confidence that the Indian diaspora will continue playing an important role in India’s march towards Viksit Bharat. According to CM Majhi, around 7,000 guests and delegates are expected to attend the convention.
