Unveils his book ‘Mantada to Manhattan’

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Andhra Pradesh government would appoint renowned Indian American oncologist Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu as an advisor on cancer-related matters. He made the announcement during the unveiling event of the book ‘Mantada to Manhattan’ authored by the latter at Murali Fortune Hotel in Vijayawada on Monday night.

Speaking at the event, presided over by Emesco Vijayakumar, Chandrababu Naidu praised Dr. Dattatreyudu, highlighting his journey from the remote village of Mantada to international recognition in the medical field. “It is a matter of great pride that Dattatreyudu, who has earned global acclaim and served people worldwide, hails from our Telugu community,” the Chief Minister said.

He emphasized that Dr. Nori’s success was not a matter of luck but a result of his unwavering determination and deep conviction. Chandrababu Naidu also acknowledged the contributions of Dattatreyudu’s family to the medical profession and lauded the numerous awards he has received for his work in oncology. He noted that Dr. Nori has dedicated over 50 years to cancer treatment.

Recalling a personal connection, Chandrababu Naidu shared that when his mother-in-law, Basavatarakam, was diagnosed with cancer, she sought treatment from Dr. Nori in the United States. “She questioned how many others could afford to travel abroad for treatment and suggested establishing a dedicated cancer hospital in India. Following her suggestion, the late N.T. Rama Rao consulted Dr. Nori and allocated seven acres of land in Hyderabad for the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital,” Chandrababu Naidu explained.

He further stated that after Basavatarakam’s passing, the hospital’s construction was stalled, but once he became Chief Minister, he resumed the work and ensured the hospital’s completion.

He also mentioned that the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad is well-established, and plans are underway to set up another branch in Amaravati, for which land has already been allocated.

Naidu remarked that, for Dr. Nori, the gratitude of patients who received treatment was a greater reward than any professional accolades.

The event was attended by Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav, legislators Mandali Buddha Prasad, Gadde Rammohan, Konathala Ramakrishna, M.S. Raju, and other dignitaries.
