After US, Korea, UK, Mexico, and Brazil, India has become the fifth-biggest international market for Benedict Cumberbatch’s latest release, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
The film had a grand opening with Rs 30 crore on its first day in the country on May 6. Apart from that, the film also had a promising start with advance bookings of Rs 10 crore. On Day 4, ‘Doctor Strange 2’ became the fourth-biggest opener in India for Hollywood.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared on Twitter, “@MarvelStudios’ Big Ticket Entertainer #DoctorStrange IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Garners A Spectacular Box Office Weekend of 94.64 GBOC! Some of the key achievements in India – Biggest Hollywood opening of 2022 – 4th Highest Hollywood Day 1 opening of all time (sic).” In the international market, the film earned $265 million (Rs 21 million), and the worldwide total is currently $450 million (Rs 35 million).
Cumberbatch is reprising his titular role in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. Helmed by Sam Raimi, the new Marvel film picks from where Stephen Strange opened up the multiverse in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
In the film, Doctor Strange will be seen teaming up with old and new allies as he ventures into the multiverse to face a new rival. Besides Benedict and Elizabeth Olsen, the film also features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
