Dr. Shenika Shah promoted to rank of Captain in US Army

 New York: Second generation Indian American Dr.Shenika Shah, daughter of Pritam and Kavita Shah made the community proud when she graduated from the medical school this year as a doctor. Dr.Shah attended the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and completed Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (MD). During her undergraduate studies she also applied to the US Army and was recruited at the 2nd Lieutenant post. With her graduation from the medical school in 2020 she was promoted to the post of a Captain and appointed at an Army Hospital.

“I will serve the soldiers and their families as a doctor. I believe “in the joy of others lies our own,” so to do service is the ultimate practice of life. My goal in life is to become a successful Ob Gyn physician and a surgeon,” she says.  

Shenika’s parents were born and raised in Mumbai until they married and immigrated to America. Her father’s family is from Rajasthan(Pindwara), while mother’s from Gujarat (Mahudha). They settled in New York where Shenika was born and raised. She grew up in Herricks school district and took part in many extracurricular activities such as Bharatnatyam classes leading to Arangetram, karate and sports.

South Asian Community leader Dilip Chauhan who is a family friend says, “I have known Shenika and her family for more than 15 years. I have attended her Bharatnatyam graduation ceremony, that exemplifies that she has inspired her generation by keeping her Indian roots.  Shenika was very passionate about giving back to the community, because in order to shape the future of tomorrow, you first must make change today and by serving as a Captain in the US Army she has proved herself.”
