Drishyam director Nishikant Kamat passes away at 50

Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat who directed 2015 thriller Drishyam passed away on Aug 17 at age 50 in Hyderabad. He was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past two years.

Kamat, who had multiple organ failure, was admitted to the hospital on July 31 with complaints of fever and excessive fatigue.

“It was diagnosed that he was suffering from liver cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications upon which Mr Kamat showed an improvement, but his condition soon deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness,” the hospital said.

Many celebrities, including Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh mourned the demise of the filmmaker on Twitter. 

“My equation with Nishikant was not just about Drishyam, a film which he directed with Tabu and me. It was an association that I cherished. He was bright; ever-smiling. He has gone too soon. RIP Nishikant,” Ajay Devgn said on Twitter.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan expressed his grief and shared, “Rest in peace dear Nishi. Our plans remain unfinished…. my thoughts and prayer to him and his family. “

Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker took to Twitter to bid adieu to his fellow filmmaker and to extend condolences to his family. “You’ve gone too soon, Nishikant! There were still so many stories that needed to be told,” the ‘Jodha Akbar’ director tweeted.
“You will be remembered through your creations! Especially #MumbaiMeriJaan which is sheer brilliance! Your CINEMA will be missed! Farewell #NishikantKamat Condolences to the family,” he added.

John Abraham who has worked with the late filmmaker in his action directorial ‘Force’ posted two pictures with him on Twitter and said, “Will not get over this …. Rest In Peace #NishikantKamat.”

Kamat helmed many Marathi and Hindi films. Some of his best-known projects include the 2011 action film Force and Irrfan Khan-starrer Madaari. He made his directorial debut with Marathi film Dombivali Fast in 2005.
