F-BIMA celebrates India’s I-Day with much fanfare

The Floral Park-Bellerose Indian Merchant Association (F-BIMA) celebrated 75 years of India’s independence at an event held on August 14, 2022. This year’s event differed in its venue and format in that, the focus was on the celebration of 75 years of the world’s largest democracy overcoming all obstacles to remain a world superpower while maintaining and promoting the beauty of the longstanding Indian heritage, culture and tradition.

The event started with a parade where celebrities, beauty queens, elected officials, and various organizations along with the crowd marched into the Gregorian Hall, in Bellerose, Queens.  The air was filled with music and laughter as DJ Padminder, Dhol and Chenda Mela performers livened up the crowd. Officials such as Suman Singh, Head of Chancery Consulate of India Consulate, Congresswoman Grace Meng, Borough President Donovan Richards, State Senators John Liu and Anna Kaplan, Deputy Commissioner of Asian Affairs for Mayor Adams Office Dilip Chauhan and many other elected Officials, walked proudly alongside the NYPD Ceremonial Marching Unit, the Veterans Color Guard, NYPD Desi Society, 105 Precinct, IDP USA, IALI, the Nurses Association, and Jain Temple of NY.  The presence of Prachi Tehlan, Bollywood actress, alongside Meera Matthew, Ms. India-New York 2022, and Shilpa Ajith, Mrs. Beautiful Smile India Worldwide 2022 added fun and flair to the celebrations as the Masters of Ceremonies, Dr. Ujwala Shah and Asha Mampilly kept the momentum going.
