New York: As the United States prepares to elect its new President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the Indian-American community at a major diaspora event on Long Island on September 22. Coinciding with the UN General Assembly (UNGA) session, the much-anticipated community event is to be held at Nassau Coliseum, which can accommodate 17,000 guests. The event is expected to reach over 100 million live viewers.
According to reports, the preparations for the Long Island event are in full swing. The non-profit Indo American Community of USA (IACU) has also kick-started a donation campaign before the event to express gratitude by the community members.
For the Patron category, the suggested donation is $100,000; for the Platinum category, the suggested donation is $50,000; and for Gold and Silver categories, the suggested donations are $25,000 and $10,000, respectively. For the Champion category, the suggested donation is $5,000. All donations come with dedicated benefits.
In September 2014, PM Modi addressed a massive gathering at Madison Square Garden, shortly after taking office as Prime Minister for the first time. In 2019, he participated in the ‘Howdy Modi’ event at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, where he was joined by then-US President Donald Trump.
The UN General Debate for the 79th session will run from September 24-30. The General Debate will start with Brazil on September 24, followed by US President Joe Biden, who will deliver his final address from the UN podium before the US presidential election.
