New York: On 9/11, the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA NY-NJ-NE) is organizing a peaceful gathering to protest the recent vandalism and hate crimes. The event will be organized at 44th street and Broadway at Times Square on Sunday.
FIA has clearly indicated that the event is non-religious and non-political. FIA has invited everyone to wear white and join the event, “Gandhi apostle of peace and non-violence”. Established in 1970, FIA is one of the oldest and largest grass-root umbrella organizations of the Indian diaspora in the US.
Indian community will stand in solidarity with their US brethren who suffered in the 9/11 attack and will also highlight the recent vandalism of the Gandhi statute in New York.
Six men destroyed the statue at the Sri Tulsi Mandir with a sledgehammer and painted hate-filled words, around it and on the road on August 19. It was the second such attack within a month’s time. The statue had been vandalized earlier on August 3.
