Former Delhi minister, Yechury’s son die of Covid-19

New Delhi: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s 34 year-old son and former Delhi minister and senior Congress leader AK Walia died on April 22 after contracting Covid-19.

Walia was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Delhi.

The 72 year-old was a doctor by profession and was elected to the Delhi Assembly four times. He was the minister of Health, Urban Development, and Land and Building in former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit’s cabinet.

Ashish Yechury, who would have turned 35 on June 9, was recovering well at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital, people close to the family added, describing his sudden death at 5.30 am after a two-week battle with the disease as a shock.

Ashish, who studied at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, worked in several publications, including the Times of India in Delhi, before moving to Pune.
