“Get Covered NYC” before Dec 15 deadline

In collaboration with the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, MetroPlus Health Plan, and community-based partners, the City will be hosting a Day of Action on Thursday, December 9 to raise awareness about a critical upcoming health care deadline. The December 15th deadline is one of the last major insurance enrollment deadlines of 2021 after an unprecedented Open Enrollment Period spanning nearly 2 years because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Day of Action will feature in-person canvassing at high-traffic areas across the five boroughs, as well as peer-to-peer text and phone banks, a paid ad campaign, and an organic social media push. There will be increased staff capacity in the days following the Day of Action to assist New Yorkers with enrolling before the December 15th deadline.

New Yorkers are encouraged to connect with a Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU) GetCoveredNYC Specialist to ensure that they have health coverage going into the New Year. New Yorkers must enroll by December 15th in order to have health coverage effective January 1, 2022. The last day to enroll in health care during the Open Enrollment Period will be January 31, 2022. In New York City, Open Enrollment has been ongoing since 2019 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, January 6 the City will host another Day of Action to promote that the Open Enrollment Period ends January 31, 2022.
