HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra travels to Reno to discuss Biden Administration health care priorities, encourage flu and Covid-19 vaccines for seniors

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra will travel to Reno, Nevada.

As part of his Latino Health Tour Mi Salud Importa, Secretary Becerra will visit Café Con Papi for a listening session with Latino elected, education, and healthcare leaders on the Administration’s healthcare priorities including closing health disparities in Latino communities.

Later, at Advanced Health Care of Reno, Secretary Becerra will take part in a roundtable where he’ll have a conversation with nursing home leadership, staff, and patients about the importance of seniors getting vaccinated for the flu and Covid-19, including the updated bivalent vaccine. During the roundtable, Secretary Becerra will highlight the recently announced COVID-19 Winter Preparedness Plan and Winter Playbook for Nursing Homes, which will make it even easier for Americans to access the tools that will protect them this holiday season – including tests through COVIDTests.gov. The plan and the playbook also accelerate the Administration’s efforts to protect some of the highest-risk Americans, including those living in long-term care facilities.

Secretary Becerra’s visit to Reno comes on the heels of his outreach to all governors expressing the Department’s commitment to partnering with them in response to the rise in COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. As part of that commitment,  Secretary Becerra announced that in addition to giving states the flexibility to tap into their own state stockpiles for Tamiflu, HHS would also give them the flexibility to tap into the national stockpile for Tamiflu if they lack their own state stockpiles of the antiviral.
