Last Wednesday, the Deepavali Day Act was introduced in an historic event on Capitol Hill.
“Today’s introduction of landmark legislation to recognize Diwali as a Federal holiday is a long-overdue step in the right direction,” said HinduPACT Executive Director Utsav Chakrabarti. “Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY)’s intention to make Diwali the 12th federal holiday recognized by the United States, is an important motion in recognition of one of America’s largest-growing demographics.”
HinduPACT also thanked President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden and House Minority leader Rep. Kevin McCarty (R-CA) for their warm greetings during these auspicious times.
