Hope alive for Kartarpur corridor reopening before Gurupurab

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly given a positive response to the demand raised by the BJP leaders from Punjab to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage. An 11-member delegation of BJP leaders met PM Modi on November 14 and requested him to reopen the Kartarpur corridor before Gurupurab.

Ashwini Sharma, chief of BJP’s Punjab unit, said that PM assured the team that he would look into the demand of the resumption of the pilgrimage to the shrine before Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary on November 19.

The Kartapur Sahib pilgrimage was suspended in March 2020 after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Modi had earlier visited a gurudwara in Delhi to mark the 400th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The delegation thanked PM Modi for taking several initiatives for Punjab and the Sikh community during his tenure since 2014.

“The PM responded positively to our request to reopen the corridor soon,” said BJP state general secretary Dayal Sodhi, who was part of the delegation.
