Houston, TX: Indo American Press Club (IAPC) Houston Chapter has emphasized the role of the media to create awareness and to provide unbiased reporting. IAPC had organized a virtual seminar on climate change and the role of the media on December 3.

Dr. SS Lal, the International President of IAPC and an eminent public health and pandemic expert, in his inaugural comments shared his experiences in Africa, India, and South East Asia while working as a UN expert. “Global warming and the resulting unprecedented hurricanes, floods, and droughts have driven people to poverty and disease,” he said.

Dr. Mathew Joys, the Vice Chairman of IAPC, stressed the need for a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and increasing the use of renewable energy. Dr. CK Mittal pointed out the need for dissemination of scientific facts on climate change by the online and print media and the need for comprehensive global and countrywide legislation.

Varghese Abraham from Denver and Uma Saji from New York called for immediate action as global warming has become an existential crisis.

Sangeeta Dua, Treasurer IAPC Houston Chapter, proposing a vote of thanks pointed out that the media has a great role to translate scientific knowledge and convey the information to the public to create awareness of the climate crisis.

The meeting was attended by IAPC members and several media persons including AC George and Biju Chacko.
